Autonomy is the ability of the individual to determine their own course of action; this includes self-reliance, competency and independence. Beneficence is the duty of the health care provider to take positive steps to prevent and remove harm from the patient. Non-maleficence is to not intentionally cause harm or injury to a patient, by either omission or commission. Veracity is honesty, the ethical principle of health care workers to share all information with those they care for.
