What nerve is involved when a client experiences pain, numbness or tingling sensations in the medial aspect of the ring finger and pinky finger?
The ulnar nerve originates from the C8-T1 nerve roots of the brachial plexus, descends the posteromedial aspect of the humerus, enters the anterior compartment of the forearm through the two heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris and along the ulna into the hand ending at the tips of the ring and pinky finger. The ulnar nerve is the largest unprotected nerve in the body and commonly susceptible to various compression issues including cubital tunnel and Guyon’s canal syndrome.
