DIC is a secondary disorder resulting from a primary pathological state or disease. It presents as an over stimulation of both bleeding and thrombosis. These occur simultaneously; can be life threatening When DIC is a complication of sepsis or shock the mortality rate can be high as 90% it is associated with MODS. The most common problems occurs in the pulmonary, renal and hematopoitic systems.
