Academic Tests

South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) - SCPASS is South Carolina's assessment of science and social studies. The computer-based exam is given to students in grades 4 and 6. 
 
Grade 10 Assessments - All high schools are required to offer the PSAT, PreACT or Aspire to all 10th grade students. 

End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) - The EOCEP tests students at the end of the course year for algebra 1, biology 1, U.S. history, and English 1- and 2-reading.

South Carolina Auctioneers Tests and Licensing - Auctioneers in South Carolina are required to pass a licensing exam given by the Department of Labor. The exam is offered quarterly in Columbia. Auctioneers must complete their apprenticeship and an approved Auctioneer Course before sitting the exam.

South Carolina Commercial Contractor's Exam and Licensing - South Carolina requires all commercial contractors to take the state Contractor Board's exam for their specialty. All of the computerized exams are open book. The number of questions and the time limit varies by specialty. The exam can be taken at any of six sites and is administered daily.

South Carolina Cosmetologists Exams and Licensure - Cosmetologists in South Carolina have to pass two exams before being licensed. One is a theoretical exam that includes state laws and the other is a practical exam. Candidates must submit a Cosmetology Training Affidavit before they will be allowed to register. The combined fee is $165 for first-time test takers.

South Carolina Real Estate Agent Testing and Licensing - The real estate agent licensing exam for South Carolina is a computerized test that has 110 questions. There is a time limit of three hours. All agents must pass the exam to be licensed. It includes questions on ownership, land use, land valuation and similar topics. A fee of $63 is required.

South Carolina Electricians Exam and Licensing - South Carolina electricians have to pass the Board of Labor's two-part licensing exam. The first part of the exam covers residential electrical topics and has a time limit of 180 minutes. The second is a business management and law exam with a time limit of 120 minutes. It costs $90.

Driver's Tests

South Carolina Driving Tests - South Carolina requires all applicants for a Class D noncommercial license to pass three tests. The first is a vision test, while the second is a test that covers traffic laws, road signs and driving safety rules. The third test is a driving test. A separate license is required for large vehicles.

South Carolina Commerical Driving Tests - South Carolina requires applications for a CDL license to pass a vision test, the knowledge test appropriate to their license classification and a driving test. The latter includes the inspection, off-road driving and on-road driving.

South Carolina Motorcycle Tests - Motorcyclists in South Carolina must obtain a special Class M license by passing a vision test, a motorcycle knowledge test and a skills test. A special restriction is required for side-car motorcyclists.
