Real Estate Agent License Practice Test Kit Need of a License: A real estate salesperson must be licensed by the state of North Dakota to represent clients in the sale or purchase of real estate that is located in North Dakota.

Who Grants a License:  Licenses are granted by the North Dakota Real Estate Commission (“NDREC”).

Qualifications to receive a License:  A candidate must complete 45 clock hours of study at an NDREC-approved real estate school (search schools here), pass a school-administered final exam, and pass a state exam.  All candidates must submit a full set of fingerprints, prove legal presence, pass a background check, and pass a credit report.  All candidates must be at least 18 years of age. Applying for the Exams: Upon completion of the pre-licensing curriculum, a candidate should apply for licensure on the NDREC website to determine their eligibility to take the state exam. NDREC reviews the application, and upon approval, sends the candidate notice of examination eligibility. The candidate should then register for the exam through the AMP website scheduling page. Test Content:  The North Dakota state real estate licensing exam is comprised of two separate portions, the national portion and the state-specific portion. Five to ten questions disbursed throughout both portions of the exam are considered "experimental" questions and are not scored. Both tests are comprised of multiple choice questions with four answer choices provided for each question. Test takers are allotted 3.5 hours to complete both portions of the test.  A passing score requires the test taker to correctly answer 70 out of 100 questions on the national portion, and 30 out of 40 questions on the state-specific portion. The exam is presented in a computer-based format, but accommodations for paper-based tests and/or oral testing can be provided with special arrangements. The national portion of the test consists of 100 questions, and tests the candidate's knowledge of general real estate concepts, including the following subject areas:

Real Property Ownership/Interest

Marketing Regulations (purchase and rental)
Property Management
Real Estate Calculations

The state-specific test consists of 40questions, and tests the candidate's knowledge of the state-specific concepts, including the following subject areas:

Duties and Powers of the Real Estate Commission
Licensing Requirements
Statutory Requirements Governing the Activities of Licensees
Statutory Requirements Governing Subdivided or Out-of-State Land Sales (Registration Requirements, Disclosure Requirements)
Real Estate Education, Research, and Recovery Fund

How to Apply for the License:  The license application is issued by the testing company upon passing both portions of the licensing exam. Candidates must provide NDREC with the following documents:  (1) completed application to issue real estate license; (2) original North Dakota state real estate licensing exam score report(s); (3) certificate issued by an NDREC-approved school for completion of the 45-hour salesperson pre-licensure curriculum; and (4) Proof of Errors and Omissions Insurance;  and (5) Recovery Fund documentation.

Who administers the test:  – A North Dakota new real estate licensee must take 15 credit hours of post-licensing education within the first year of licensure.

License Renewal Requirements – A North Dakota real estate licensee must take 9 credit hours of continuing education (either online or in the classroom) from an NDREC-approved provider every year. Further information is provided on the NDREC website, here.
