Iowa Life and Health Insurance Agent Exam

Life & Health Exam Need of a License: An individual who is acting as an agent or producer needs a license to sell life and health insurance in Iowa.

Who Grants a License: Licenses are granted by the Iowa Insurance Division.

Qualifications to receive a License: Individuals who wish to obtain an insurance license in the State of Iowa must:
 
1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
2. Be a resident of the state of Iowa.
3. Make a reservation and pay the fee.
4. Pass the examination.
5. Apply for a license.
 
Applying for the Producer Exam:  It is highly recommended that the Iowa Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook be reviewed, and special attention be given to the content outlines (available at www.pearsonvue.com), before taking an examination.
 
The State of Iowa utilizes Pearson VUE to develop and administer its insurance licensing examination program. Pearson VUE is a leading provider of assessment services to regulatory agencies and national associations. Online reservations are the most efficient way for candidates to schedule their examination. Candidates must go to https://home.pearsonvue.com/ia/insurance
to make an online reservation for an examination. Candidates may call (877) 540-5825 to make an exam reservation by phone.
 
Test Information: When candidates complete the examination, they will receive a score report marked
“pass” or “fail.” Candidates who pass the examination will receive a score report that includes information on how to apply for a license. Candidates who fail the examination will receive a score report that includes a numeric score and diagnostic information relating to the general portion of the examination, as well as information about reexamination.
 
Each examination is based on a detailed content outline of topics, subtopics, and references to applicable state laws, statutes and regulations. The Iowa Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook contains specific content information beyond the following general outlines:

How to Apply for the License: After passing the examination, allow 2-3 business days for your notification to be uploaded to the NIPR (National Producer Insurance Registry) website. Submit your application and apply online here as well.

Please note that the application process must be completed within 90 days of passing the examination

License Renewal Requirements: Individual Producer licenses must be renewed every two years and there is a continuing education requirement.
