Arizona Life and Health Insurance Exam

Need of a License: An individual who is acting as an agent or producer needs a license to sell life and health insurance in Arizona.

Who Grants a License: Licenses are granted by the Arizona Department of Insurance.

Qualifications to receive a License: General eligibility criteria include:

• Be 18 years of age
• Maintain a principal place of business
• Pass an examination
• Submit fingerprints
• Fulfill license eligibility requirement for identity verification

 
Applying for the Producer Exam: Examinations are administered by Prometric, which provides a License Handbook and test content outlines. Exams can be scheduled online.

Test Information: Each major line examination is given in a multiple-choice format. The Life, Accident and Health or Sickness Exam Series 13-33 consists of 150 questions, and you will have 150 minutes to complete it. The following is an outline of major portions of the exam:

• General Insurance Concepts – 6%
• Life and Accident and Health Insurance Basics – 12%
• Types of Life Insurance Policies – 10%
• Life Insurance Policy Provisions, Options and Riders – 10%
• Annuities – 9%
• Federal Tax Considerations for Life Insurance and Annuities – 4%
• Disability Basics – 9% 
• Disability Provisions – 6%
• Disability Income and Insurance – 4%
• Medical Plans – 6%
• Group Accident and Health Insurance – 6%
• Dental Insurance – 3%
• Insurance for Senior Citizens – 8%
• Federal Tax Considerations for Disability Insurance – 3%

Your score will be given to you immediately following completion of the exam. In order to pass, you must achieve a minimum score of 70%. If you do not pass, you’ll be notified of such, and will be provided information about how you performed on each area of the exam.

License Renewal Requirements: Individual Producer licenses must be renewed every 4 years and there is a continuing education requirement.
