Nebraska Electrician Exam
Need of a License: Master and journeyman electricians need a license to work in Nebraska.
Who Grants a License: Electrician licenses are granted by the Nebraska State Electrical Board.
Qualifications Needed to Receive a License
Electrical Contractor: A candidate must have a four-year electrical engineering degree from an accredited college and have at least one year of experience as a journeyman electrician or a licensed journeyman electrician, or five years’ experience in electrical planning and installation.
Journeyman Electrician: A candidate must present evidence of completion of a four-year apprenticeship in electrical construction work or three years’ experience plus a post-high school degree in electrical wiring with a degree in Electrical Technology. Electrical experience gained in military service counts toward one year of work experience.
Exam Requirements: A candidate for a master electrician license or a journeyman electrician license must pass the Electrical Contractor Exam or the Journeyman Electrician Exam, respectively.

Test Content
Electrical Contractor Exam - The electrical contractor exam consists of 50 questions with a time limit of 3 hours. A candidate needs at least a 76% grade to pass.
The exam covers the following subject areas:
- 2014 National Electrical Code beginning with the 8/19/14 Omaha exam.
- Basic Electricity
- Nebraska State Electrical Act
- Blueprint Reading
- Emergency Circuits, Including Fire Alarm Circuits
Other topics may also be included. Applicants are encouraged to have a thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
